In late February, rangers spotted a False Killer Whale whilst out on a sea patrol near Rabooma Island in the Arafura Sea.
It was quite exciting as it’s the first time they’ve seen a False Killer Whale – a species of oceanic dolphin. The name comes from the similar skull characteristics to the Killer Whale, also known as the Orca.
Thanks to CDU’s Dr Carol Palmer for helping out with the identification.
