Learning on Country (LoC)

Learning on Country (LoC) is based at Ramingining School and links Australian curriculum subjects with field-based experiential learning and data collection.

“When our young people are in the bush, they see how what they do makes a difference to country, and to them. They go digging for yam and other bush foods and see new life coming up. They learn to care for country and themselves. If we are in the bush, we can teach our young people to hunt and share all the stories for country.”

Learning on Country (LoC) is a community driven and culturally relevant collaboration between the Ramingining School, ASRAC Rangers and Traditional Owners.

The program is based at Ramingining School and links Australian curriculum subjects with field-based experiential learning and data collection. It provides the opportunity for students to learn on country with rangers and Traditional Owners, promoting Indigenous ecological knowledge transfer and cultural activities. These activities are linked into curriculum by teachers in the classroom.

The ASRAC and Ramingining School LoC program inspires students who may be disengaged from school and helps to them reconnect with their culture. It also provides leadership opportunities, workplace skills and employment pathways.
